Employment displacement is the termination of an employee’s job as a result of elimination of the position he was holding. 

 This happens generally in case of organisation restructuring, downsizing, automation, merger/acquisition or any other big change in the organisation.

For example: When a bank gets computerised, the jobs done by 5 clerks would be eliminated and only 1 computer operator would be needed. Hence, if the bank decides to terminate the clerks, then the scenario would be an example of employment displacement.
