Customised Employment (CE) definition

An internal process whereby the relationship between the employer and the employee is discussed and negotiated so that both parties are happy with the end result. The changes agreed may or may not be codified in the employment contract. Customised employment may be conducted before the employee starts or be part of an on-going process of improvement.

Some of the outcomes of customised employment may be job reassignment, where the responsibilities of existing employees are redistributed to new ones to better suit their strengths. Job sharing may also be a possibility, particular where a new employee or existing employee is keen to address a perceived deficit in work-life balance.

Customised employment was originally introduced as a way to better cater for employees with disabilities, but in recent years employers and employees have realised the benefits of opening up the process to other employees.
